The Fingerprint Unlock On Your Phone Can Be Hacked

Two researchers from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University have devised a way to bypass fingerprint unlock security on mobile devices. Kai Cao and Anil K. Jain  published the tutorial and the materials needed can be bought off the shelf. The hack takes less than 15 minutes and it was tested on Samsung Galaxy S6 and  Huawei Honor 7.

Hacking Samsung Galaxy S6 was relatively easier but the researchers claim that Huawei Honor 7 was a bit difficult. In a video uploaded to YouTube demonstrating the process, it was revealed that the materials needed include an inkjet printer, a few drops of conductive ink that contains silver and a special paper from a Japanese manufacturer called AgIC used for printing electronic circuits.

Spoofing the fingerprint isn’t really difficult with the needed materials on ground. A hacker can easily lift the fingerprint from a stolen phone and have it spoofed to carry out the hack.

Samsung takes fingerprint security very seriously, and we would like to assure that users’ fingerprints are encrypted and securely stored within our devices equipped with fingerprint sensors. As the report itself points out, it takes specific equipment, supplies and conditions to simulate a person’s fingerprint, including being in possession of the fingerprint owner’s phone to unlock the device. If at any time there is a credible potential vulnerability we will act promptly to investigate and resolve the issue.

Huawei too responded to the report:
We are aware of various reports which make the claim that vulnerabilities exist in fingerprint sensor technology used by several manufacturers, including Honor. We have equipped Honor 7 with a chipset-level security solution in which personal data in the form of fingerprint images is protected with hardware. This solution is significantly superior to that of most other Android phones.
This report further proves that security is only an illusion. The researchers reportedly said this same method didn’t work on iPhone 5s and Meizu MX4 Pro. With more devices using fingerprint unlock for sensitive activities like payment, it becomes even more important for manufacturers to further tighten security with anti-spoofing measures. You can read the full report here.

Everything You Need To Know about Yatch Monitoring Technology

Advancement of technology has improved the quality of life. Boat owners can now sleep better thanks to the invention of the remote monitoring system. In the past the only available security systems for boats were modified home security system but the advancement of technology has given rise to sophisticated security systems. This systems can protect your boat from fire, high water and intruders and the owner does not have to worry about a thing. The boatactuator offer information to boat owners on where to purchase this systems and how to install them.
yatch2
This sophisticated monitoring system use either wired or wireless sensors connected to control head that transmits alerts to the boats sitcom system. The system uses several motion sensors to ensure maximum security. Yacht monitoring system unlike home monitoring systems do not report to the system rather it contacts to the boater directly via text or email if trouble arises.
Yacht monitoring technology allows the boat owner to remotely track and find the vessel incase its stolen. The system can be configured to send its position via satellite to a secure website. There are different levels of security and remote monitoring systems dependent on the size of the yacht. Different levels of detection, warning and consequence make an effective security system. This systems are impossible to disable since they are independent of the boat’s data backbone.
yatch1
Remote monitoring system are set up to operate on owner’s specification. If he wants an alert to be set to him after every 15 minutes, or he wants to be able to remote open doors, all this is possible with the system. It is thus wise for every boat owner to install a monitoring system to ensure his investment is well taken care of. It gives boater peace of mind and they do not have to waste money to pay someone to watch over it or has to constantly check on it themselves.

Google Currently Testing Digital Wallet that Uses Facial Recognition

Technology keeps getting better and better every day. Imagine paying a cashier by phone, without it leaving your pocket.
Google has said it is testing ways to let people use digital wallets without having to even take smartphones out of their pockets. The Internet colossus is dabbling with ways to make its Android Pay system for smartphones hands-free, with verification by facial recognition, Google product manager Pali Bhat said in a blog post. “Imagine if you could rush through a drive-thru without reaching for your wallet, or pick up a hot dog at the ballpark without fumbling to pass coins or your credit card to the cashier,” Bhat said.
Google Wallet and Facial Recognition
“This prompted us to build a pilot app called Hands Free that were now in the early stages of testing.” Hands Free became available for smartphones powered by Apple or Android software and was being rolled out at a small number of Silicon Valley area eateries, including McDonald’s and Papa John’s, according to Google. The digital wallet uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections alone with location sensing capabilities in smartphones to detect when someone is near a store enabled with Hands Free payment technology.
“When you’re ready to pay, you can simply tell the cashier, ‘I’ll pay with Google,’” Bhat said. “The cashier will ask for your initials and use the picture you added to your Hands Free profile to confirm your identity.” At some locations, Google is experimented with using cameras in stores to recognize people with Hands Free digital wallets so they could pay without even pausing.
Since Android pay was launched in September, and average of 1.5 million accounts have been registered monthly in the United States and the number of locations accepting it has topped two million, according to Google. “We’re busy working to bring the convenience of Android Pay to more countries and a growing list of stores and apps,” Bhat said. Google’s mobile wallet competes with Apple Pay and others as people’s reliance on smartphones expands to using handsets to make payments.

10 Most Popular Computers In The History Of Computing

history of computing most popular computer ever commodore 64
Some of the most popular computers in the computer history have left a mark behind as one of the most memorable machines the world ever saw. Some of these PCs made a history but could survive the history. Read more and know which computers were the kings of past era.

Then personal computers were released almost half a century ago, the customers did not have a choice like they do have now. There were limited choices and on top of that, a customer had to decide the kind of software that would run on that PC for next a few upcoming years. So, just a few PCs were favorite among the computer users.

Here is a list of 10 Most Popular Computer In Computer History:

  • Timex Sinclair 1000

In 1981, Sinclair released a computer at a price of $100. This small computer, also known as the ZX81, ran on BASIC with just 2KB of RAM and 3.25 MHz processor. However, it made a perfect entry point for aspiring hobbyists who couldn’t spend a thousand dollars on a PC. With this price, the Timex Sinclair 1000 sold over 600,000 units in the United States and became one of the most popular computers of its time.
  • Tandy TRS-80

Tandy TRS-80 was launched in 1977. It offered its first model with 4K of RAM, a 1.77 MHz processor and a 12-inch monitor for $600. Later models of TRS-80 called TRS-100, greatly increased the computer’s capabilities, adding floppy support, extra ports, and more memory. The operating system called TRS-DOS (disk operating system) was the most popular computer OS predating MS-DOS. Tandy sold more than 200,000 units.

  • MSX

When the computer revolution had taken over the United States and Europe by companies like IBM, Commodore, Sinclair and Apple, Japan had its own hardware setups. The MSX was a unique computer which stood for Microsoft Extended Basic actually applied to a number of similar systems created by Japanese companies like Toshiba and Sony. MSX was the most popular machine in Japan those days.
  • NEC PC-98

If MSX was the most popular computer in Japan then NEC’s PC-98 was a big success in itself. NEC PC-98 was released in 1982. It ran on a 5 MHz Intel 8086 CPU, had two display controllers, and a base 128KB of RAM. The PC-98 was a powerful computer for its time, and NEC ruled the Japanese market with roughly a 50 percent market share.
  • iMac (One of the most popular computers)

iMac got instant popularity when Apple began advertising it on the name of its uniqueness. When they released the iMac in 1998, they advertised its colorful body by criticizing the beige color of drab PCs.It’s a simple, all-in-one design that incorporates all of the computer’s components into the monitor housing. Easy to move, easy to set up.

  • Commodore Amiga

The Commodore Amiga was released in 1987. It was released following the grand success of computers like the Commodore 64 and Apple II. It was newer, faster, better. The Amiga 500 made the jump from an 8-bit CPU up to 32 bits and 7 MHz of speed. The computer shipped with 512KB of RAM, support for up to 4096 colors, and an internal 3.5-inch floppy drive — just for a launch price of $700.
  • Apple II (One of the most popular computers)

Apple II was released in 1977, the same year Sinclair released the $100 Timex Sinclair 1000. However, this second computer from Apple was a great success even though it cost $1300. It was built on the design of the Apple I by retaining a simple 1MHz processor and 4KB of RAM and adding a case and keyboard.ZX Spectrum
  • ZX Spectrum

ZX Spectrum was a huge success in the UK and eventually it was the most popular computer of its time. It was launched in 1982. The design was similar: A small, affordable (£ 125 in the U.K.) system that incorporated a keyboard into its body. But the Spectrum was a much better computer than its predecessor, thanks to 16KB of RAM and a real hardware keyboard.
  • IBM PC: (One of the most popular computers)

IBM PC can be said as the first generation PC which is still trending in the market. The Intel-based, Windows-running computers that have dominated the market since the 1990s were born from the IBM PC.
Within a few years, all x86 computers — those using Intel’s processors — were compatible with the IBM PC and virtually identical to IBM’s design. They all ran MS-DOS, and the x86 PC field went on to become the de facto standard.
  • Commodore 64:

The Commodore 64 is the single most popular computer system ever sold. Released in 1982, the Commodore 64 had a 1MHz CPU but it came with two big draws:
  • A powerful, programmable sound chip and,
  • powerful graphics for a 1982 computer.
What made it stand out from the race of PCs was its reasonable cost of $595, 64KB of RAM and that could be plugged into a TV, making it a hybrid computer/video game console.
If you also know the most popular computer of its time which made a difference and you would like to share about that, you can put your views in the comments below. Also, don’t forget to mention your first machine’s specification 😉

Why internal storage still beats a microSD card

When it was announced that MicroSD cards were making a triumphant return to the Samsung Galaxy S series, many exploded with excitement. However, there is still a lot of confusion and misinformation surrounding the value of MicroSD cards. Here I explain why internal storage is still better than external memory.
androidpit micro sd 2

The misconception

I don't wish to patronize here and I’m not suggesting this is big news. Rather, some people genuinely aren't aware of it and Android 6.0 Marshmallow has confused the situation somewhat.
You might think that buying a handset with 32 GB of internal memory and adding a 32 GB microSD card to is the same as buying a 64 GB smartphone. It's not.
This important. It is always cheaper to add external storage, and thus tempting to do so, but it’s just not as effective. Why? To explain this we must look at life before and after Marshmallow.
AndroidPIT Nexus 6 Android 6 0 Marshmallow review 35

Pre Android 6.0 Marshmallow

On devices that don't run Marshmallow, the kind of data that can be stored on the microSD card is different to what can be stored in your phone. You can store movies, music and image files easily, but app data (including sometimes large game files) is trickier.
You can’t, for example, install an entire app or game onto a microSD card. You can move part of the data there, but that's all.
Because of this, even with a 128 GB memory card stuffed into a 16 GB device, you could still find yourself frequently running out of storage space. So, first and foremost, microSD cards are more limited in terms of the type of data they can store, while internal storage can hold any data.
Darth Vader micro SD ANDROIDPIT

Post Android 6.0

Google has made an attempt to unify the MicroSD / internal storage experience in Android Marshmallow with a feature known as Adoptable Storage. With this, you can use a microSD card just like internal storage. The caveat is that once you do this the microSD card can only be used in that device, and removing it can cause all kinds of problems.
moto g 2014 marshmallow cm13 beta
Though it may act the same as your device's internal storage, it's still not quite the same.
The speed at which your device reads and writes information to storage mediums affects overall performance.
Traditionally, accessing data on external storage mediums was almost always slower than the dedicated drive. With Adoptable Storage, this is still mostly true: the unification of these two storage mediums will have an adverse affect on overall read and write speed.
But to make the situation even more complicated, performance may improve in rare cases.

On the HTC One A9 and confusion

With the HTC One A9, a MicroSD card can actually improve the phone’s read and write speeds. It depends on the type of SD Card, but when using the SanDisk Extreme Plus 64 GB in our One A9, the overall read and write speed actually increased. Truthfully, it was not to any visible degree, but worth mentioning all the same.
androidpit HTC One A9 Format internal storage

On the Galaxy S7 and confusion

The Galaxy S7 has made matters worse because its MicroSD cards don’t make use of the Adoptable Storage feature, despite the fact that the S7 runs Marshmallow.
Based on current information, it seems that SD cards in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will act the same way as external storage does in the traditional Android sense, that is, they can only store photos, videos, app data, and other such files.

androidpit samsung galaxy s7 8

Where does this leave us?

Android Marshmallow has attempted to bring the warring factions of internal and external storage together. There is currently a ceasefire: these storage forms are playing nice. If you take advantage of Adoptable Storage, your MicroSD card will act just like internal storage with few downsides. But some families, such as LG and Samsung, haven’t implemented Adoptable Storage.
For now, I’d still advise against buying additional storage if you want the same function as internal storage, unless you know your device supports Adoptable Storage and don’t mind a potentially adverse effect on performance. Additionally, external storage mediums are prone to corruption, and who knows what the long-term effects of persistent data transfer will be when microSD cards are used like internal storage.
If you just want another way to store pictures and videos without clogging up your internal memory, a microSD card will still do just fine.
It's still a hotly debated topic, so where do you stand on external vs internal storage? Give me your thoughts in the comments.

Emojicode — The “Happiest” Open Source Programming Language You Need To Learn

Intro: There’s a new programming language in town and it’s the happiest language you’ll ever meet. Emojicode, an open source and multi-paradigm language, uses all type, method, class method and initializer names are Emojis. Know more about it and make your code merrier.

Emojicode is a new open source, multi-paradigm, object-oriented, high-level programming language consisting of emojis. This static and strongly typed programming language could easily be called the happiest programming language.

It isn’t limited to emojis and making things more beautiful. Using Emojicode, you can create fast cross-platform applications. In this hybrid language, emojis structure the program and its flow.

All type, method, class method and initializer names are Emojis. However, variables cannot include emojis or spaces, and they must be a combination of characters.
As mentioned above, Emojicode is a multi-paradigm language, thanks to its abilities like Optionals, Object-orientation, Generics and Closures. With a focus on system integration, it provides a consistent and stable interface.

The Emojicode Real-Time Engine is a very important part of Emojicode langauge as it actually executes your program. Weighing just 100 kilobytes, the Engine is faster than ordinary virtual machines. It takes the bytecode file and executes it. The Engine runs on cross platforms like OS X, Ubuntu, Debian, Raspbian and more.

Installing Emojicode and getting started:

You can download Emojicode’s SDK for your machine from here: https://github.com/emojicode/emojicode/releases. After this extract the tar file.
Now run the install.sh script in the extracted directory with root privileges. If you are running a Linux machine, you need to install ttf-ancient-fonts.

What if no Emojicode binary available for my machine?

In case no binary is available for your system, you can build the Emojicode directly yourself. To do this, download the source code from GitHub. Note that you need clang or Gcc 4.7+, make, and SDL2 to compile the SDL package.
Not extract the downloaded package, navigate to it and run make command to compile everything. While compiling the engine, you can specify the heap size in bytes (default = 512MB). Now, after hitting the run command, run install.sh with root privileges.
You can read more documentation on the Emojicode website and GitHub.

First Live Images Of Infinix Hot 3 Leaks

ive shots of the upcoming Infinix Hot 3 has appeared on the web,  the images reveal some nicely crafted design elements; it appears the smartphone will retain its plastic shell and come with a non-protruding primary shooter.primary shooter.

There are no official specifications yet, but a close look at the leaked images does show a 5-inch device. Infinix won’t be giving the Hot 3 a 5.5-inch treatment.
Hot 3 is unlikely going to be another Android One device, but we expect it to be significantly more powerful than the Hot 2. The company is over-hyping the front-facing camera so it’s natural to expect something big from that technical aspect.

Free Tool Lets You See Facebook Hidden Friends List of Others

how-to-facebook-friends-mapper-hidden-friend-list-In recent past, Facebook has brought more power to the users and now they can control all the information they’ve shared on their Facebook accounts. You can go to your Facebook privacy settings and limit the visibility of posts, pictures and whatnot.

Many of you would have set the privacy of your friends list as private. But this isn’t enough. A week ago, a new Chrome extension came into the limelight and it claims to reveal the hidden friends list to your friends. I tried out this tool myself and the “Only Me” option to keep your friends list hidden from the world doesn’t work anymore.

How does this Facebook Friends Mapper extension for Chrome work?

Facebook Friends Mapper Chrome extension fools the mutual friends feature of the Facebook and collects the hidden friends’ data of your friends and makes them public for you.
Let’s suppose a friend of yours doesn’t share his/her friends list but has few mutual friends with you. THN writes: “If, for example, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg does not share his friends list with the public and neither I am on his friend list. However, I have at least one mutual friend with him. So using Facebook Friends Mapper tool I would be able to see most of his hidden Facebook friends by exploiting the ‘mutual friend’ logical flaw.”

How to use Facebook Friends Mapper extension for Chrome?

Step 1:
To see any friend’s hidden friends list, you need to download and install the Facebook Friend Mapper extension and restart the browser.
Step 2:
Now go to your friend’s profile whom you are wishing to see the hidden friends list. You will be seeing a new (Reveal Friends) option in the friends tab.
facebook-friends-mapper-hidden-friend-list-
Step3:
Click on the Reveal Friends option and you will be able to see all the friends whether they are your mutual friends or not.facebook-friends-mapper-hidden-friend-listWarning: These kinds of extension are not good for your web browser, I just installed them in order to make the tutorial and write about this flaw. So I won’t recommend you to use this on a permanent basis.
Note: However to use this Facebook Friends Mapper Chrome extension, you must have one mutual friend with the target. It doesn’t matter of you are Facebook friends with that person or not.
If someone uses this tool, your privacy settings won’t work for that person and your hidden friends list will be exposed. I hope Facebook fixes this logical flaw before this tool goes viral.
You can install and check out the Facebook Friends Mapper Chrome extension for free.

Here’s What Apple Co-founder Steve Jobs Had To Say About Privacy In 2010

steve jobs on privacy

Intro: Apple co-founder Steve Jobs would have agreed with Tim Cook’s views on privacy. In a video from 2010, the late Apple CEO is seen defending Apple’s choices by saying that his company take privacy extremely seriously.

Apple CEO Tim Cook’s stance regarding the encryption of the iPhone involved in the San Bernardino shooting attack has gained the support of multiple tech giants. However, talking about privacy isn’t a new thing for an Apple CEO.

In a recently discovered video, the late CEO Steve Jobs is seen discussing his approach to privacy. The video dates back to 2010, five years before San Bernardino, where he sat down with Re/Code founders Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher.
“Privacy means people know what they’re signing up for — in plain English, and repeatedly,” he said. “Silicon Valley is not monolithic. We’ve always had a very different view of privacy than some of our colleagues in the Valley. We take privacy extremely seriously.”
Citing an example, Jobs said that Apple worries a lot about location in phones. “So, before an app can get the location, we don’t make it a rule that they have to put up a panel and ask because they might not follow that rule,” he said. “They call our location services and we put up the panel, saying this app want to use your location data. Is that okay with you.”
He continues to explain that Apple does numerous things like that to tell people what their apps are doing. “A lot of people in the Valley think we’re really old-fashioned about this,” Jobs said. “And maybe we are.”
