Best multitasking and shortcut apps for Android

The implementation of the recent apps menu in Android 5.0 Lollipop rendered many shortcut apps useless. Being able to quickly jump between any previously accessed app or menu made Android navigation easier, but it isn't the only way to speed up your workflow. Here are the best app shortcuts and task-switchers for Android.
androidpit best multi tasking apps 5

Omni Swipe – best all-rounder

After more than 100 million installs, Omni Swipe has a rating of 4.5/5 stars in the Play Store and for good reason: this app is awesome. Part of the appeal of Omni Swipe is its strong design: the rotating wheel which acts as the centre-point for all its interactions looks attractive and feels good to use.
With an inward swipe from the right of left of your screen, you reveal the fan-shaped Omni Swipe toolbar. This gives access to your favorite apps, recent places, settings toggles and more, providing a fast and appealing way to navigate your device.
If you're interested, be sure to go with the paid version or you'll be bombarded with annoying ads.

androidpit best multi tasking apps

Shortcuts – best notification shade add-on

The simplicity of Shortcuts is what really sells it: open the app, tick the apps you wish to make shortcuts to and enable it. Shortcuts to these apps will now appear in your notification shade.
The reason that Shortcuts is so effective is that the notification shade is accessible from any menu or area on Android. Whether you're watching a video, playing a game, or taking part in an ongoing call, you can pull down the notification shade and see your favorite apps right there. I can't see a reason why this option isn't put into stock Android as standard.

Power Toggles – best for custom settings toggles

Power Toggles is as old as the hills, but it's still going strong. This brilliant free app gives you better settings toggles and makes them easier to access. If, say, you find yourself frequently traveling to your display settings to change the screen timeout time, then you can use power toggles to put that switch right alongside your screen brightness.
You can even add a whole second row of toggles if you wish. It's subtle, smart, and useful.

Swipeup Utility – best home button modifier

Swipeup Utility simply allows you to reconfigure what your Home button does. Want to swipe up to launch one of your apps? You can do that. Or perhaps you want it to take you straight to a contact? Swipeup Utility lets you do that, too.
There are a few bugs in the more advanced features, and it's quite limited, but if you've ever wanted to use your home button to launch your camera app straight into video mode (hey, you might), this is the way to do it.

Why internal storage still beats a microSD card

When it was announced that MicroSD cards were making a triumphant return to the Samsung Galaxy S series, many exploded with excitement. However, there is still a lot of confusion and misinformation surrounding the value of MicroSD cards. Here I explain why internal storage is still better than external memory.
androidpit micro sd 2

The misconception

I don't wish to patronize here and I’m not suggesting this is big news. Rather, some people genuinely aren't aware of it and Android 6.0 Marshmallow has confused the situation somewhat.
You might think that buying a handset with 32 GB of internal memory and adding a 32 GB microSD card to is the same as buying a 64 GB smartphone. It's not.
This important. It is always cheaper to add external storage, and thus tempting to do so, but it’s just not as effective. Why? To explain this we must look at life before and after Marshmallow.
AndroidPIT Nexus 6 Android 6 0 Marshmallow review 35

Pre Android 6.0 Marshmallow

On devices that don't run Marshmallow, the kind of data that can be stored on the microSD card is different to what can be stored in your phone. You can store movies, music and image files easily, but app data (including sometimes large game files) is trickier.
You can’t, for example, install an entire app or game onto a microSD card. You can move part of the data there, but that's all.
Because of this, even with a 128 GB memory card stuffed into a 16 GB device, you could still find yourself frequently running out of storage space. So, first and foremost, microSD cards are more limited in terms of the type of data they can store, while internal storage can hold any data.

Post Android 6.0

Google has made an attempt to unify the MicroSD / internal storage experience in Android Marshmallow with a feature known as Adoptable Storage. With this, you can use a microSD card just like internal storage. The caveat is that once you do this the microSD card can only be used in that device, and removing it can cause all kinds of problems.
moto g 2014 marshmallow cm13 beta
Though it may act the same as your device's internal storage, it's still not quite the same.
The speed at which your device reads and writes information to storage mediums affects overall performance.
Traditionally, accessing data on external storage mediums was almost always slower than the dedicated drive. With Adoptable Storage, this is still mostly true: the unification of these two storage mediums will have an adverse affect on overall read and write speed.
But to make the situation even more complicated, performance may improve in rare cases.

On the HTC One A9 and confusion

With the HTC One A9, a MicroSD card can actually improve the phone’s read and write speeds. It depends on the type of SD Card, but when using the SanDisk Extreme Plus 64 GB in our One A9, the overall read and write speed actually increased. Truthfully, it was not to any visible degree, but worth mentioning all the same.
androidpit HTC One A9 Format internal storage

On the Galaxy S7 and confusion

The Galaxy S7 has made matters worse because its MicroSD cards don’t make use of the Adoptable Storage feature, despite the fact that the S7 runs Marshmallow.
Based on current information, it seems that SD cards in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will act the same way as external storage does in the traditional Android sense, that is, they can only store photos, videos, app data, and other such files.

androidpit samsung galaxy s7 8

Where does this leave us?

Android Marshmallow has attempted to bring the warring factions of internal and external storage together. There is currently a ceasefire: these storage forms are playing nice. If you take advantage of Adoptable Storage, your MicroSD card will act just like internal storage with few downsides. But some families, such as LG and Samsung, haven’t implemented Adoptable Storage.
For now, I’d still advise against buying additional storage if you want the same function as internal storage, unless you know your device supports Adoptable Storage and don’t mind a potentially adverse effect on performance. Additionally, external storage mediums are prone to corruption, and who knows what the long-term effects of persistent data transfer will be when microSD cards are used like internal storage.
If you just want another way to store pictures and videos without clogging up your internal memory, a microSD card will still do just fine.
It's still a hotly debated topic, so where do you stand on external vs internal storage? Give me your thoughts in the comments.

First Live Images Of Infinix Hot 3 Leaks

ive shots of the upcoming Infinix Hot 3 has appeared on the web,  the images reveal some nicely crafted design elements; it appears the smartphone will retain its plastic shell and come with a non-protruding primary shooter.primary shooter.

There are no official specifications yet, but a close look at the leaked images does show a 5-inch device. Infinix won’t be giving the Hot 3 a 5.5-inch treatment.
Hot 3 is unlikely going to be another Android One device, but we expect it to be significantly more powerful than the Hot 2. The company is over-hyping the front-facing camera so it’s natural to expect something big from that technical aspect.

How to Disable WhatsApp Blue Ticks aka Read Receipt on Android

WhatsApp launched a new feature called ‘Read Receipt’ that allows users to see if a message that they have sent has been read by the receiver. This feature was implemented by the way of showing double blue ticks in the bottom-right corner of the WhatsApp message bubble. When your message has been read by the recipient, the double grey ticks will turn into double blue ticks.
With the blue tick marks, it’s now easier to keep track of a conversation on WhatsApp. However, some users who love privacy found it annoying with the update. If you don’t like the ‘read receipt’ feature, you can easily disable the blue ticks on WhatsApp. Please note that once you disable this feature, you won’t be able to see the double blue check marks when you send a message as well.
Here’s how you can disable WhatsApp blue ticks on your Android device.
  • Launch WhatsApp
  • Go To Settings -> Account -> Privacy
  • Untick the ‘Read Receipts’ option
  • whatsapp read receipt
  • Done! Now even if you have read the Whatsapp message, the sender will not receive a blue tick marks.
This feature however doesn’t work in group conversations so the sender will still be able to see the blue ticks whenever all the members of the group read his or her message.

How to Know Who Has Read Your Whatsapp Group Message on Android

Last two years, WhatsApp released a new double blue tick’ feature that allows users to know if their messages have been read or not. The blue tick appears as soon as your messages has been read by recipient. In a group chat, the check marks will turn blue when all participants in the group have read your message. While it is easy to know whether your message has been read in individual messaging, it is just a bit tricky to find out who has read it and who has skipped it in group messaging.
If you want to know whether a particular person has read the message or not in the group, here is how you can find it out.
  • Open WhatsApp
  • Tap on any group chat
  • Tap and hold on your sent message, a menu will popup at the top of the screen. Tap on ‘i’ (information) symbol.
  • whatsapp msg info sp1
  • Now you can see a list of members who has read you message under ‘Read by’ section.
  • whatsapp msg info sp2
For those who haven’t read your message yet will be listed under ‘Delivered to’ section. That’show to know who has read your WhatsApp Group Message on Android. If you found this tip useful, please do share it with your friends on your favorite social networks.
